The role of Shift Technician is to ensure that they support the production of product by the required means. This maybe to support the Lead engineer in more technical activities or to run a process as already predefined by SOP.

Main Responsibilities:

Health & Safety

  • Ensure all Environmental; Health & Safety Requirements are being adhered to.
  • Near miss reporting and assist in the resolution where applicable.

Production / Quality

Demonstrate an understanding of and help drive

  • Standard Operating Procedures required for the specific task/job
  • Product quality requirements.
  • Using engineering measuring equipment
  • Batch card disciplines.
  • Inspection principles.
  • Realtime data capture and time sheet records.
  • OEE data review and Inputting on internal tracker
  • Product conformity with Quality support function.
  • BCW QMS procedures.
  • Monitor shift output against target, and challenge any poor performance
  • Review Shift Non-Conformance and review with operators.
  • Participate in GEMBA activities and drive closure of any open findings

Manufacturing

  • Loading components correctly onto CNC machines.
  • Monitor hand-controlled or computer-controlled machines.
  • Unloading components.
  • De burr and check surface conditions of material.
  • Visually inspect to ensure compliance to product quality requirements.
  • Ensure Kanban principles are being followed and help drive effectiveness of these.

Assembly

  • Operate manual and / or automated production line equipment.
  • Use of conveyor lines, hand tools, airlines and part markers.
  • Assemble goods on a manual production line.
  • Use machines which are pre-set to carry out certain tasks.
  • Visually inspect to ensure compliance to product quality requirements.
  • Store components appropriately.
  • Monitor shift output against target.
     

Asset Care

  • Ensure cleaning and basic maintenance of work areas and machinery.
  • Ensure appropriate checks and monitor machine lubricant and coolant levels.
  • Adjust machine controls and monitor the production process and outputs.
  • Identify and Report equipment faults to relevant department.
  • Deal with problems effectively.
  • Enforce 5S & Lean principles.

Team

  • Liaise and effectively communicate with internal and external colleagues.
  • Proactively carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
  • Take an active role in meetings and problem-solving activities.
  • Participating in various training opportunities as and when required.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and contribute to team working initiatives.
  • Encourage the continuation and sharing of good practice.
  • Carry out training and development of operators in line with company SOPs and best practices for defined processes.
  • Review and updated skills matrix with the Production Manager.
  • Empower team to be proactive in their work to ensure they meet targets & achieve goals

Shift Supervision

  • Effectively manage all personnel on shift.
  • In/Out Brief to all personnel on shift.
  • First Point of contact for all Internal issues.
  • Set production targets as agreed with production planning and effectively manage the output.
  • Shift planning of the manning of machines in line with the production plan.
  • Carry out Return to work interviews
  • Assist in disciplinary process when required.
  • Maintain & update training matrix.
